Hale Freezes Over

Saturday, January 30 Steve ran in a race sponsored by Hale Center Theater in Orem called “Hale Freezes Over”. And… HE WON!!! He took 1st place in the 10K. His prize was season passes to the Hale Center Theater, as well as a family season pass to Thanksgiving Point. Isn’t that SO AWESOME? Steve and I really enjoy going to plays at the Hale Center Theater and are really excited about these passes. We look forward to enjoying lots of family trips to Thanksgiving Point, which will be especially nice for Kate. You can read more about his race here.

Way to go, Steve! Can’t wait for our first show! :)

2 Weeks Old

Can you believe it… 2 weeks old already! It seems like we just brought Joshua home, yet at the same time like he has been with us so much longer than 2 weeks. We are so enjoying this time with Kate and Joshua.

I took Joshua in for his 2 week appointment today. He is doing great and growing rapidly. He already weighs 9 lbs 15 ounces!! He has a hearty appetite. :) He is in the 81% for both height and weight.

Joshua has a very sweet disposition. He is very alert already and will spend quite a bit of time awake during the day (2-3 hours at a time and usually 3 times a day). When you hold him on your shoulder he likes to take his left arm and tuck it around your right arm and squeeze, or he likes to be on your chest with his hands tucked in close to his face. He sleeps best when he is being held and is quite restless otherwise (something we hope he will outgrow!). Just this week he has started to smile. Today I was listening to some music by Grieg. When “Morning Mood” came on Joshua smiled and cooed a couple of times while it was playing.

Here are some pictures for you to enjoy from the last week or so.

What A Character!

100_4349

Sunday night we had dinner at my parent’s house. (They are in the process of moving into a home in Lehi. It is so fun having them close by!!!). Just before leaving I was getting Kate into her pajamas. She ran over to a gift bag and pulled out a pair of pajamas my brother and his family had given us for Joshua. She let me know she wanted to wear “Josh’s jammies”. I told her they were to small and put them on her to help her understand. She was so tickled over that. Then she pointed to herself and said “baby Josh”. She picked up her blanket, walked over to his car seat, popped his pacifier in her mouth and sat in his car seat with her blanket. Then, with the pacifier in her mouth still, asked us for a book. It was hilarious!

Our New Adventure

Kate can open doors! Sunday night we were at my parent’s house. My mom and I were talking in the front room and Kate was at the front door trying to get it open. To our surprise she was successful. You should have seen her face when that happened. She knew she had done something big! For the next 15 minutes or so she kept opening and closing the door. :)

Kate has been nothing but loving and helpful since Joshua came home yesterday. She loves to hold, hug, and kiss him. She loves to help mommy change his diapers by giving her the wipes. She always make sure he has a blanket and a book!

Last night we had both car seats sitting in the front room. Kate took her blanket and book over to hers and sat down. Then she asked us to put Joshua in his seat with his blanket. What do you think she did next? She gave him a book! They “read” together for a little while.

Tonight I put Joshua on his tummy for some tummy-time. Kate was off playing, but the moment she saw that she hurried over to his blanket and plopped herself down on her tummy with her bum in the air. It was so funny! Then she pulled her shirt up and said “back?”. She loves to have her back rubbed. :) It was fun to see the difference in their sizes as they laid next to each other. You forget how little newborns are and we realized how grown up Kate is getting.

Just In From Heaven…

Joshua Stephen Piccolo made his entrance into the world yesterday morning, January 18, at 9:25 a.m. He is 8 lbs 2 oz and 21 inches long. He was born 1 day after his due date (very different from Kate who was born 12 days early!). He is healthy and beautiful!! Here are some pictures from his birth-day…

Because of H1N1 they are not allowing children under 14 to visit the hospital. So, Kate will not get to meet Joshua until Wednesday morning when we come home. We are very excited for them to meet and can’t wait to see her reaction!

More to come… :)

Amen

Just in the last couple of days Kate has started saying “Amen” when we finish reading her a book. She will even say it if she is looking at it by herself when she gets to the end. It is quite funny! Sometimes we will say “the end” and I think she has gotten the two mixed up. They do sound a little bit alike, after all.

Choir Routine

100_4126

Each week when I go to choir rehearsal (which isn’t happening right now because I am on maternity leave until Spring Conference) we have a little routine we go through. Kate has her own name tag (my old one from choir) and I have mine. We both put our name tags on. Then, as I am leaving, her and Steve stand in the garage waving good-bye. As I start to back up Kate moves her arm back and forth and says “go, go, go!” Her and Steve then proceed to chase after the car as I drive down the street. All the while Kate’s little arm is going back and forth (like she is running, but Steve is holding her) and she is saying “go, go, go” or laughing and smiling. It is something we all look forward to, especially Kate.

There was a short period of time when Kate had a hard time with me leaving. One day, as she was crying, her and Steve chased the car down and she just loved it! Her tears turned to laughter. It became a nightly ritual. She also became very aware of my name tag and always wanted to hold it/put it on. So, we pulled out my old one for her. Ever since we established this little routine she doesn’t have a hard time when I leave, but rather gets excited. And the time her and Steve get to spend together is precious.

“Oh, Spilled”

Kate understands well what the word spilled means and uses it frequently. Usually it is in the right context. However, we’ve noticed that anything that falls “spills”. The other day she was stepping up a step and slipped off and fell. She quickly replied, “Oh, spilled!” :)
